Faculty of Business
Dean's Welcome
I am really glad that you are taking a look at the Avondale College web site in general and the information relating to the Faculty of Business in particular. A competitive work environment means that the choice of your degree is very important. It will have a direct impact on your employability. The quality of our program has proved itself in the marketplace. We are therefore happy to work with you in developing the necessary skills for that environment. We aim to provide you with:
- Current knowledge and skills
- A sense of creativity
- Insight into real world situations
- Clear ethical foundations for the future
- Improved career opportunities
The college is committed to providing a study program set within the unique Christian world view of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This faculty builds on this foundation to furnish our students with the professional and personal skills to contribute a Christian influence in the community where they are employed.
The Bachelor of Business (BBus) is a professional degree designed for those who plan to take up entry-level appointments on completion. We offer courses of study leading to majors in Accounting, Human Resource Management, and Marketing. It is possible to combine the BBus with the BA degree so that students can draw on additional complementary majors. When taken as a combined degree (BA/BBus) employment opportunities are further enhanced. Those who are interested in secondary teaching can combine the BBus with the BTch degree.
The Postgraduate courses in Leadership and Management (Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Arts) have been designed around the needs of people who are currently employed in leadership positions, or those who aspire to leadership. Graduates hold positions of responsibility in various kinds of organisations but particularly within church, non-governmental or not-for-profit organisations. This post-graduate degree is delivered mainly via mixed-mode, distance and Winter Schools, and this flexibility allows students to develop their skills, taking into account the demands of their own work schedule.
The quality of the Avondale program has attracted a range of international students. When combined with a cross section of national students and teaching staff, we have a vibrant learning environment of different cultures and backgrounds. Our Staff/Student ratio is 1:12. All staff operate with an open door policy which means that they are always approachable and appointments are easily made without excessive lead time.
Come and join us and enrich the Avondale scene.
