Bachelor of Nursing
The Bachelor of Nursing (BN) degree prepares students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for nurse registration. Clinical experience is gained in a wide range of health care providers including one of Sydney’s leading private hospitals, the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH), providing students with exceptional training for a nursing career. The Bachelor of Nursing course aims to equip students with high ethical standards, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and sound knowledge to provide safe and competent care.
The first year of the course may be undertaken on either the Lake Macquarie Campus or the Sydney Campus. Subsequent semesters are based at the Sydney Campus that is co-located with the Sydney Adventist Hospital (the “San”). Students may commence the course in the first semester, or part-time students can enter the program in either semester of the academic year.

Entry requirements
General Admission Requirements apply to the Bachelor of Nursing degree. In addition the following requirements are recommended:
- HSC (or equivalent) Biology and/or Chemistry (or completion of a Chemistry Bridging course) is recommended.
- Current First Aid Certificate from an accredited course is strongly recommended prior to commencement of course or must be completed by the end of the first semester.

HECS-HELP
If you are a domestic student, you may be eligible for a Commonwealth supported place (HECS-HELP). There are two forms of HECS-HELP assistance:
- HECS-HELP Loan: This is a loan from the Australian Government for all or part of your student contribution amount. No repayment is required until your income exceeds the threshold $44,912 (2010-2011) (CPI Indexed).
- HECS-HELP Discount: If you pay up-front all, or at least $500, of your student contribution amount for units by the census date, you will receive a 20% discount on the amount you pay. Some students are required to pay their student contribution upfront and are ineligible for the upfront discount.

FEE-HELP
If you are a domestic full fee-paying student, you may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance. FEE-HELP is available for most Avondale higher education courses. FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth loan scheme that assists eligible students to defer payment of their tuition fees. FEE-HELP can cover all or part of a student’s tuition fees, up to a lifetime limit of $86,422 (2011). The $86,422 (2011) FEE-HELP limit is indexed each year. A loan fee of 20% applies to FEE-HELP loans for undergraduate courses of study. The FEE-HELP limit does not include the loan fee. No repayment is required until your income exceeds $44,912 (2010-2011) (CPI indexed).
