About
The Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation is a tertiary pathway course for students seeking alternative entry into the degree course of their choice. It may be suitable for recent school leavers who have not achieved the required entry-level ATAR, including those with no ATAR. The course assists with the development of tertiary literacy skills, especially English language skills in writing and communicating, and employment skills.
It may also be suitable for mature-age students seeking alternative entry to a bachelor's degree.
The course enables students to develop the generic academic skills needed for higher education.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation, graduates will be able to:
- demonstrate skills and literacies appropriate for further education.
- demonstrate knowledge and concepts with depth in the chosen areas of learning;
- demonstrate effective research and communication skills and the capacity to respond critically (showing ability to analyse and evaluate) to information and ideas from a range of sources in solving problems;
- work effectively with others, demonstrating initiative and independence as well as a capacity to function collegially;
- demonstrate an informed respect for individual worth, cultural and social diversity, and environmental sustainability;
- demonstrate the capacity to make ethical decisions that are linked to Christian values;
Career Opportunities
Upon successful completion in the one semester (minimum of three units) of the Undergraduate Certificate in Tertiary English course, students may apply to enrol in an Avondale undergraduate degree. Students may receive credit from this course towards their chosen degree.
Admission Criteria
GENERAL ADMISSION CRITERIA
To qualify for admission, you must meet one of the following criteria:Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study
- An Australian Qualifications Framework AQF Level 3 qualification or higher; or
- A New Zealand Qualifications Framework NZQF Level 3 qualification or higher
Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)
- A Selection Rank of 45.00 or above after adjustment factors are applied; or
- Awarded Senior Secondary Certificate, or equivalent; or
- Equivalent overseas secondary qualifications as stated in Appendix 1 of the Admission to Higher Education Undergraduate Courses Policy
Applicants with work and life experience
- An ATAR equal to or above 45.00; or
- An appropriate score in the uniTEST and the Tertiary Online Written Assessment; or
- An appropriate score in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
Applicants with overseas qualifications
- An overseas qualification comparable to an Australian Qualifications Framework AQF Level 3 or higher
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
The Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation is available to domestic students and international students studying outside of Australia. The course is available to international students in Australia on a student visa.ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency in one of the ways outlined in Appendix 2 of the Admission to Higher Education Undergraduate Courses Policy.Course Structure
Course duration: 6 months full-time (or part-time equivalent)
Study mode: On-campus, and online for approved students (online units will vary from those available for on-campus study). Students wishing to study online may be required to undertake an interview with the Course Convenor.
