The challenge of leadership and management in various types of organisations has become more demanding and complex. Adapting to rapidly changing business environments calls for a more sophisticated set of skills and abilities from leaders and managers. Church-related, not-for-profit organisations and other organisations require effective leadership informed by the social sciences and a developing body of knowledge concerning management, leadership and organisations.

A Master of Leadership and Management (MLM) focuses on providing advanced training in management theory and practice, emphasising the ethical, moral and spiritual dimensions of leadership and management.

Admission Criteria


A Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) or equivalent or satisfactory completion of the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management

At least two years’ employment experience in an appropriate leadership or management role.


Overseas applicants will have their qualifications assessed by Avondale Admissions in line with the Admission Policy for Undergraduate Higher Education Courses found at  Overseas applicants are also required to satisfy Australian Government visa requirements


Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English as per the Admission to Higher Education policy found at

Course Structure

Course duration: Three years part time ( the course is not offered full time).
Study mode: Distance education with on-campus mid- year residentials required for some units
Maximum time to complete: 5 years

This is a twelve-unit study program as follows. All units are worth 6 credit points (unless otherwise specified).

The following units are required:

  • LAMC50600 The Theology, Theory and Practice of Leadership
  • LAMC50000 Introduction to Research
  • LAMR59200 Independent Research Project (Choice between a 2 unit or a 3 unit project)

Group A Units (Must complete 4 units)

  • LAMC51100 Leadership and Organisation
  • LAMC51200 Communication for Leaders
  • LAMC51600 Organisational Processes and Change
  • LAMC51400 Human Resource Management
  • LAMC52400 Managerial and Professional Ethics

Group B Units (Must complete 2 units)

  • LAMC52100 Marketing Management
  • LAMC52200 Information Systems for Leaders
  • LAMC52300 Strategic Planning for Leadership
  • LAMC52500 Legal Issues in Leaders
  • LAMC52600 Accounting for Leaders


Electives may be drawn from the Group A subjects, Group B subjects, or other disciplines (on approval from the Course Coordinator).



This course is accredited under Avondale's self-accrediting authority and it is nationally registered with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).
