About UsThe counsellors working at the Avondale Counselling Clinic are final year students in the Counselling training program provided by Avondale University College. Avondale University College was established in Cooranbong in 1897. Since then, thousands of students have come through our doors in order to be equipped to make a difference in their local community and abroad. The Counselling course commenced in 2012, as part of our Bachelor of Arts program. The establishment of the Avondale Counselling Clinic in the beginning of 2018, is another step forward for our program and an important part of our desire to make a contribution to improving the well-being of our community.
Counselling students receive a broad based education that synthesizes well established principles of therapeutic practice with current research and seeks to develop not only therapeutic skills, but the person of the therapist.
Counsellors working out of Avondale’s Counselling Clinic have learned the micro-skills of counselling, are familiar with various mental health conditions and have been introduced to specific techniques for treating these conditions. Our counsellors are also familiar with a broad range of theories regarding how issues develop and what interventions may be helpful. Most importantly, our counsellors are trained to understand the unique and individual requirements of each client and understand that the ‘one size fits all’ approach does not work when dealing with unhelpful thinking, disturbing emotions or unproductive behaviours.
Our carefully selected final year students will deliver a professional and confidential counselling service. They are carefully supervised by the Faculty who teach the counselling program and work in accordance with the ethical and professional guidelines of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia.
Our counselling program is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association and meets the requirements of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia.
