Vocal performance puts Avondale in spotlight

26 February 2008

A performance by an Avondale lecturer at a Christmas concert organised by a regional arts society may give more exposure to the college's music ensembles.

Dr Robb Dennis, a senior music lecturer in the Faculty of Arts, featured as tenor soloist for the Hunter Performing Arts Society's Christmas gala in Warners Bay on December 13 this past year. Dennis sang duets from Puccini's La Boheme and Verdi's La Traviata with Dame Jennifer Barnes of Opera Australia and sang "E lucevan le Stelle" from Puccini's Tosca as a featured solo item.

Dennis will sing the same repertoire but with an orchestra and three other soloists from Opera Australia and Opera Adelaide as part of the society's Opera in the Park in March this year.

Of his experience, Dennis says, "It's a privilege to network with leading musicians in the Hunter, and it's likely this experience will lead to other opportunities for our music ensembles in the near future."
