Staff members and students on Avondale College's Lake Macquarie campus stretched their legs in the biannual Hall to Gate Run this past Thursday (March 6). The run from the front of College Hall to the end of Central Road and back attracted some of Avondale's finest athletes and funniest costumes (including a look-alike mascot from Melbourne radio station Fox FM). Winner of the most recent run, Dr Darren Moreton, a senior lecturer in health and exercise science, continued his success with a time of eight minutes and 56 seconds, two seconds slower than his benchmark pace last year. Chris Starrett, who had another strong showing with a time of 9:12, followed Darren home. The fastest female, first-year student Jacqueline Mikulic, braved the pavement barefoot, setting a women's record with a time of 11:54. The event, however, drew smaller numbers than in previous years. Student Services has noticed the decline in participants and is considering a possible change in time in future semesters.
