Candles in church a reminder of Christ

Seven candlesticks will again appear in Avondale College Seventh-day Adventist Church this Saturday as a sermon series finding Jesus in the book of Revelation continues. Senior minister Dr Bruce Manners first used the candlesticks during the worship service on March 1. Church members Drs Keith Howson and Lyell Heise read a modified version of Revelation 1:9-12--the first mention of the symbolic nature of the candlesticks--which explained why the candlesticks appeared on the stage. Each of the candles represents one of the people groups of the church--leaders, teachers, mothers, children, long-serving members, high school students and college students--and serves as a visual reminder that Christ walks among the church. Bruce presents the second of his 10-part "Where's Jesus?" series on Saturday. "Every time you come to church and see these candles, you know we'll be talking about Revelation."
