I am an on-campus student at Avondale College and, I confess, I often wake up around 10 am. This means, of course, I've slept through my alarm and failed to follow through on my great intention of waking up at 7.30 am and walking the short distance to the Fit Life Health Club on the Lake Macquarie campus. However, it seems many others do not have this problem.
Fit Life opened in March this year and since then has continued to add new equipment and offer more services. It currently has about 200 members of the community as members and about 250 staff members and student as members.
"We have just spent over $15,000 on new cardio and weight equipment," says Luke Martin, who manages Fit Life with his brother, Levi. A new exercise timetable with five new classes has also just begun.
Melinda Pomat, an on-campus business student, attends the classes. "They are excellent as they motivate me to keep exercising," she says. "I'm trying to make the most of having these services so close."
Patrice Patel, an instructor at Fit Life, has seen the number of people in her classes increase since March. "People enjoy the classes because it is a fun way to exercise and keep fit," she says.
Luke says the inclusion of the new classes means the health club will continue to grow. However, he says, "We would be absolutely pumped to see more students."
