SECURITY REPORT SHEDS LIGHT AFTER DARK
"Tattler" has received an Avondale College security report (for the week ending March 4) that sheds some light on who is on the Lake Macquarie campus after dark. A senior lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Mathematics makes several appearances in the report. The lecturer is often in their office well past 10 pm, as is an energetic lecturer in the Faculty of Lifestyle Education and Visual Communication (who may not have been as full of energy the day after working until 2 am). Science and mathematics must be motivating, as one student--in the first week of study--used the computer room in the faculty until 3 am. And which financial and business services staff member arrived for work at 6 am, on a Sunday?

GYM ON SYDNEY CAMPUS SURVIVES ONLY SIX MONTHS
The gym the Avondale Nursing Students Association lobbied for this past year is a lot smaller than it used to be. Avondale College donated $10,000 and Sydney Adventist Hospital $10,000 and three rooms to set up the gym for Faculty of Nursing and Health staff members and students to share with hospital staff members. However, only six months later, the gym is now only a single room--the hospital needs to use the other two--and the eight near new pieces of commercial quality equipment must be either sold or placed in storage.

CALLISTA NOW CONNECT, BUT WHAT OF THE OTHER NAMES
The Callista Student Management System now has a name--Connect--thanks to Eldon Rosenberg of information technology services. He wins a $50 gift voucher from Borders after entering a competition to name the project. Congratulations, Eldon, but "Tattler" wanted to know the names of some of the 36 other suggestions. We asked Avondale Information Management System project manager Rose Howson. She told us the project board members were weary of acronyms, so Avondale Student System didn't stand a chance. We liked AIM IT, which must have come from somebody in information technology services, only because we couldn't get our head around Venice and Wombat. "We have some imaginative people on staff," says Rose.
