The memorial service for Tyson Norris--killed in a motorcycle accident at Edgeworth on July 10--celebrated the life of the Avondale College student even in his death.
The service, held in Avondale College Seventh-day Adventist Curch this past Sunday (August 24) to coincide with the return of Tyson's classmates from prac teaching, featured music, and lots of it. The Contemporary Choir performed--Tyson was the choir's pianist-as did quartets, trios and soloists.
Chaplain Dr Wayne French presented Tyson's life sketch. Tyson's parents, Robert and Julie, spoke about how their faith in God helped them deal with their son's death.
The service included a visit to Tyson's grave at Avondale Cemetery. The students took white balloons from the church, releasing them at the graveside to symbolise the release of any animosity toward God. They covered the grave with wattle--a symbolic nod to Tyson's service as a firefighter--and they lit candles before blowing them out. The flame has gone, said Wayne, but we still hold the source of the flame.
Tyson has gone, but we still hold in our minds memories of him. Cherish these memories.
