The continuous week of prayer on Avondale College's Lake Macquarie campus has been more popular this year than any other since beginning in 2004.
The Seventh-day Adventist church on the campus opens its Prayer Room 24 hours a day during what it calls Elevation 24-7. The room is normally open from 5 am to midnight during semesters. The aim is to have at least one person praying in the room every hour during the week, which, as it did last year, coincides with Festival of Faith.
Staff members and students, even those from Avondale School, responded enthusiastically to the challenge this year, filling 153 of the 168 time slots.
"It was really awesome to see people committing their time and focusing on prayer," says Lili Radziszewski, leader of Student Associated Ministries.
Staff members and students could spend the hour in prayer the traditional way or through other creative expressions such as art and music.
