Avondale College students flocked to the Chan Shun Auditorium for the annual Careers Expo this past Wednesday (September 17). Kevin Judge, the director of student services, said more than 500 students attended the event. "The Careers Expo offers students the chance to discover the different career paths their degrees can take them down," says Kevin. "Students are also able to talk to prospective employers, which is an excellent opportunity, especially for graduating students."
The Careers Expo had booths representing both Seventh-day Adventist and non-Adventist organisations. Jessica Ward, a Bachelor of Arts student, says, "It's great we don't have to leave campus to become aware of the different career opportunities we have, that these services can come to us."
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service also visited the Lake Macquarie campus on Wednesday. Jacqui Raadsma, the Central Coast marketing coordinator for the Red Cross, describes the visit as successful--47 donors gave blood.
"Students want to donate blood to help those in need and give back to the community," says Avondale's student support officer Kathy Readford. One of the students donating blood was Dana Mulvany from New Zealand. "I donate my blood because it can save three lives, and one day I may rely on someone else's blood donation to save my life," she says.
The Red Cross visits the campus once a semester but will trial visiting twice a semester next year.
