Three Avondale College Diploma of Business students have earned praise from their lecturers for organising a professional development conference for classmates and colleagues.
Matt Boyd, who is completing a Diploma of Business (Human Resources); Elton Coltheart, who is also completing a Diploma of Business (Human Resources); and Kathy Readford, who is completing a Diploma of Business Administration, coordinated all the logistics, including the catering, equity access, gifts and registration. Elton also served as master of ceremonies.
Some 24 staff members and students attended the conference, held in College Hall on October 28. One described it as "relevant and well presented," another described the students as "informed and friendly."
Heather Slight, course coordinator for the VTE Department of Business Services at Avondale, says: "Organising the conference served as a workplace-based scenario, and the students showed they had the ability and the skills to successfully carry it off. They showed initiative and innovation."
"The students impressed me. They were professional, helpful and friendly," says lecturer Nina Hearn.
Belinda Peuser, personal assistant to the management team at Sanitarium Development & Innovation, spoke at the conference. Her professional objective is to be a valued member of an organisation that is committed to achieving goals and caring for its people. Her presentation explored the values of building professional relationships within the organisation, recognising different styles of management, and adding value through training, knowledge and pro-activity.
