Two Avondale College staff members say they have a better appreciation of the life of a student as they graduate with bachelor's degrees this month.
Avondale Library's Lynette Frazer has graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in applied science from Charles Sturt University. "The degree has helped me empathise with students," she says, noting the stress associated with completing assignments. "It gives me satisfaction knowing I'm able to teach them how to find information." Lynette, who majored in library and information management, is a technician responsible for acquisitions in the library on the Lake Macquarie campus. She travelled to the university's Wagga Wagga campus to march during the ceremony on April 1.
Natalie Biro will celebrate the culmination of seven years' study when she graduates with a Bachelor of Business in human resource management on April 15. The personal assistant to the vice-president (learning and teaching) began an Advanced Diploma of Business Management at TAFE before transferring to the University of Newcastle. She describes the camaraderie and collegiality of student life as "enriching." "I'm more passionate now about empowering people with knowledge because it creates opportunities and opens doors."--with Christel Price
