Members of Avondale College's Contemporary Choir will enjoy changes under the new leadership of student services this year.
Previously affiliated with Avondale College Seventh-day Adventist Church, the choir is "no longer 'floating around,'" says director of student services Kevin Judge. Members are becoming more involved in the running of and decision-making for the choir--directors Ray Moaga and Chantal Heise are delegating more of their responsibilities. The two welcome the changes. They now receive financial support from student services but say their enthusiasm is not about money but acknowledgement. "What we do isn't easy," says Chantal."
The aim of the Contemporary Choir is not only to make good music. Ray believes in building a community among members where the focus is on forming and strengthening relationships with each other and more importantly with God through music. Chantal sees the choir as an opportunity for students to be involved in ministry and to enjoy a common bond. "We are people who have a passion for expression in various genres," says Ray.
The choir meets at the church on Mondays at 7.30 pm for practice.
