Equipped with scarves and jackets, Avondale College theology students took to the road this past weekend headed for Canberra. While students at Avondale soaked up the unseasonably warm winter temperatures, the theology students rugged up to reach out to members-many of whom are young professionals or university students-of the Canberra National Seventh-day Adventist Church. The students organised and presented vespers on Friday evening, Sabbath school and a youth worship service on Saturday morning and a social on Saturday evening. The service included a call to ministry. The theology student association, Fig Tree, organised the trip, with staff adviser Dr Lyell Heise describing it as a good opportunity for "networking between Adventist young people" and a "crash course in pastoral sociology." According to Ryan Vidot, a third-year theology major, Fig Tree helps ministers in training build connections, foster support systems and enhance professional development.
