Caption: Avondale College student Eden Jones sits at the wheel of her new car, a used Ford Falcon given away this past Wednesday (September 16) during a fundraiser for a student mission trip to the Solomon Islands. Sales of tickets for the car, donated by Brad Watson, a lecturer in development studies in the Faculty of Arts, raised more than $3000 for One Mission. The money will help students complete the building of a medical clinic in Honiara at the end of the year. Those donating $5 received a ticket. "I bought a ticket 30 seconds before the draw and now I have a car!" said Eden on being announced as the winner. However, her ticket was not the first drawn. Cooranbong resident and Sanitarium Health Food Company employee John Blyde won the car but returned it for a second draw. Coincidently, John and wife Sue, a former staff member in Avondale Library, have served previously on mission projects in the same province of the Solomons.
