An evangelistic series presented at Avondale College by one of its students has reaffirmed the importance of Scripture.
Alisha Fenwick's "Why believe?" series began on August 25 and ran in College Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and at lunch times on Thursdays during August and September. With between 20 and 50 students attending each of the programs, the series made a "positive Christian impact on campus," says chaplain Dr Wayne French.
One student from a non-Christian background attended regularly "because a lot of the content was new to her," says Alisha. "We weren't aiming to have 50 baptisms . . . the goal was to have students take their relationship with God seriously."
Alisha came up with the idea for "Why believe?" after It Is Written Oceania, a ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific's Adventist Media Network, approached her. "They were looking for ways to encourage young adults to get involved in evangelism," says Alisha.
Alisha's enthusiasm for presenting the series impressed president Dr Ray Roennfeldt. "She communicates well and in a contemporary way. Her relationship with Jesus just shows through."
It Is Written Oceania has provided six young adults, including Alisha and fellow Avondale student Billy Otto, with training, mentoring and financial support to engage in evangelism.
