Graduating communication and business majors prepared for life post-Avondale College during a job-seeking seminar organised by their classmates this past Tuesday (October 27).
Students from Public Relations Events Management organised the seminar, promoting it as The Office. It featured sessions and workshops targeted at students looking for their first job after graduating.
Speakers Korey Dowling from Adventist Employment, Kristin Esau from Sanitarium Health Food Company, Kareena Orman from Complete Staff Solutions and Gaby Spalding from Avondale College's Human Resource Department hosted the sessions. Former Avondale student Dene Weslake also spoke. The sessions included information on CV writing, the employment process, the interview process and personality types. After lunch, the students participated in a mock job interview with Kristin and Sanitarium Brand and Communications manager Julie Praestiin.
Communication major Jessica Ward describes the seminar as "beneficial" and the theme as "engaging." "Everyone enjoyed themselves," she says. Jessica's classmate Linden Chuang says the seminar "provided insight into what to expect after graduation and how to equip ourselves to find work."
"It's exciting to see the potential of students," says Korey, the employment promotions officer for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific, "and it's great to see them actively thinking ahead about future career paths."
