Avondale College theology students have a greater appreciation of the Bible after returning this month from a six-week tour of Egypt, Greece, Israel and Turkey.
Panapa Leuluai says he found parts of the tour moving, especially standing on the Mount of Olives looking toward Jerusalem. "I recalled the experience of Jesus and His disciples--it challenged and reaffirmed my calling to ministry."
Other highlights of the tour, which chaplain and coordinator Dr Wayne French says is part of an experience-based elective in theology, included visiting the Garden of Gethsemane and the Wailing Wall. The students even enjoyed a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.
"Stepping in Jesus' footsteps brings to life the places and events I read about in the Bible," says Luis Bermudez.
The Avondale students joined those from La Sierra University (Riverside, California, USA) and their leader, Dr Bailey Gillespie, a professor in the School of Religion.
