European business tour a good investment

Joshua Moses says travelling is one of the best investments you can make. His lecturers would like to hear him say this because Joshua is one of the students who embarked on a 30-day study tour of Europe organised by Avondale College's Faculty of Business and Information Technology.

The tour started in Singapore and ended in France. Joshua describes it as a "great experience." He is no stranger to travelling abroad. He is an Indian who has lived in the United States and who is now studying in Australia. He has also travelled to the Philippines and now 10 countries in Europe.

"We learned about cross-cultural business and marketing and about working with a diversity of people in different settings," says Joshua. "We learn most of our theory in class, so the tour has broadened our horizons--we see how theory is applied in real-life situations."

Joshua lists flower farms in Austria, water management in Netherlands and fashion in Milan, Italy, as his highlights.

Also a highlight, but in a more subdued sense, were the holocaust sites--the concentration camps and gas chambers--in Germany. "I've watched movies about the holocaust, but standing at the places where it took place gave me a different feeling," says Joshua. "I take life for granted. Seeing the holocaust sites has made me seriously consider the value of human life."
