Avondale College opens its new Enquiry and Enrolment Centre and welcomes a new marketing services manager today ahead of its final visits to high schools.

The official opening of the centre begins with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11.30 am. The invitation to meet the staff members and to tour the centre, which includes new offices for the Marketing Services Department, extends to 1 pm. Light refreshments provided.

One of the new staff members is Rick Creighton, who began working yesterday as marketing services manager. Rick has previous experience in the department as a consultant to former director Glenn Roberts--the two marketed Avondale to students in the United States. The appointment is on a part-time basis as requested by Rick.

The appointment of marketing officer Jo-Anne Vint supplements Rick's position. Jo-Anne graduated from Avondale in 2000. She has more than five years' experience as a personal development, health and physical education teacher in Seventh-day Adventist schools and worked most recently as project manager for the Active Edge Group in Gosford.

The new make-up of marketing services--a manager, two marketing officers and a student recruiter/adviser--means the department can implement more extensive recruitment, "which is critical to our revenue, and hence to the operation of all our departments," says president Dr John Cox.

The Enquiry and Enrolment Centre supplements the work of the department by guiding prospective students from initial contact through to admission.

An email earlier this month from a prospective student highlights the importance of making a good first impression. "Thank you for the information I received. I found it helpful in my course selection. I have previously visited your campus and spoken with your lecturers. I feel your college does not receive enough recognition for the interest it shows in students. You are welcoming and friendly and for that, I congratulate you."
