Staff members and students set three new records during the fastest ever Hall to Gate Run this past Wednesday (February 28).
Senior health and exercise science lecturer Dr Darren Morton (pictured) finished first again, but this time in 8.54 minutes, a personal best.
First-year arts and teaching student Chris Starrett, who pushed Morton for most of the race, finished in 9.12 minutes, becoming the first student to complete the race in less than 10 minutes. Two others also beat the previous record of 10.07 minutes. Third-year education student Candace Macrae finished as the first female in 11.43 minutes, beating the previous record by 33 seconds.
The timing of the first of run this year, held at midday instead of 7 am, gave the event a bigger profile, which may encourage more students, particularly those living off campus, to participate.
The Hall to Gate Run, now in its fourth year, is a biannual 2.2-kilometre race on the Lake Macquarie campus from College Hall to Freemans Drive and back.
