CC363 :: ADVANCED JOURNALISM
Description
Narrative non-fiction is about the way we tell real-life stories. It combines the craft of reportage with the techniques and writing abilities of a novelist. A combination of fidelity to the truth and literary expression can raise this writing to an art form. We see examples in creative magazine articles as well as in a diverse array of books that include real-life crime stories travel writing history memoir and biography. This subject covers all these forms focussing on biography and travel writing in particular. It also explores a few key texts in detail as well as a wide range of readings in a critical class environment. There is an emphasis on the students own work in a series of exercises and major writing projects to cultivate an awareness of narrative non-fiction and its practice.
