CH163 :: GENERAL CHEMISTRY
Description
This is an introductory subject. The physical and inorganic component constitutes half the subject and is oriented towards the needs of the biological sciences with topics such as atomic and molecular structure gas laws diffusion thermochemistry acid-base equilibria simple redox reactions rates and nuclear chemistry. The other half deals with organic and biological chemistry emphasising structure properties and uses rather than synthesis and mechanisms. Common functional groups stereoisomerism elementary spectroscopy and the common classes of biological compounds are introduced.
