The Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) is a graduate-entry bachelor degree designed to prepare students to teach at the secondary level. Graduates are qualified to teach in the Seventh-day Adventist and Christian school systems both in Australia and overseas, as well as in the wider educational sector of government and non-government schools.

Information for International students

English Language Proficiency Requirement for Teachers in NSW
International students require an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of at least 8.0 for speaking and listening prior to being employed as graduate teachers in New South Wales.

Entry Requirements


Entry into the BTch (Secondary) degree requires a suitable undergraduate degree that meets the teaching requirements of the NSW Department of Education and Training for secondary teaching. The relevant course coordinator will need to undertake an assessment of each candidate’s transcript to ensure the unit content requirements have been completed prior to enrolment into this program.

HECS-HELP


If you are a domestic student, you may be eligible for a Commonwealth supported place (HECS-HELP). There are two forms of HECS-HELP assistance:
  • HECS-HELP Loan: This is a loan from the Australian Government for all or part of your student contribution amount. No repayment is required until your income exceeds the threshold $44,912 (2010-2011) (CPI Indexed).
  • HECS-HELP Discount: If you pay up-front all, or at least $500, of your student contribution amount for units by the census date, you will receive a 20% discount on the amount you pay. Some students are required to pay their student contribution upfront and are ineligible for the upfront discount.

FEE-HELP


If you are a domestic full fee-paying student, you may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance. FEE-HELP is available for most Avondale higher education courses. FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth loan scheme that assists eligible students to defer payment of their tuition fees. FEE-HELP can cover all or part of a student’s tuition fees, up to a lifetime limit of $86,422 (2011). The $86,422 (2011) FEE-HELP limit is indexed each year. A loan fee of 20% applies to FEE-HELP loans for undergraduate courses of study. The FEE-HELP limit does not include the loan fee. No repayment is required until your income exceeds $44,912 (2010-2011) (CPI indexed).
