The Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Teaching combines professional studies in education with studies in Bachelor of Business disciplines appropriate to equip graduates for secondary teaching.

The general entry requirements for Avondale College degree courses are stated in the Academic Policies section of the Handbook. In addition, the following major has specific entry requirements:

Information Technology



HSC Mathematics or its equivalent is recommended.

Course structure



The BBus/BTch is a four-year program of 192 credit points combining studies in business with professional studies in Education. The BBus strand and the BTch strand each contribute 96 credit points to the combined degree.
In the BBus strand, students complete a Business Studies major (48 credit points) and minor (18 credit points) and a business–core (24 credit points).
The BTch components of the degree are described above under Secondary Education Degrees. Specific BTch subjects are shown on the BBus/BTch Structure at the end of this section.

BBus strand minor concentrations



A minor concentration in the BBus/BTch degree may comprise subjects from a single discipline or subjects from two disciplines chosen from the following:

  • Accounting

  • Economics

  • Information Technology

  • Legal Studies

  • Management

  • Marketing


In the minor concentration, no more than 12 credit points may be taken at the 100-level. The sequence of subjects must be approved by the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Information Technology and the Dean of the Faculty of Education.

Business-core subjects



Business-core subjects complement the major and minor concentrations, ensuring an appropriate breadth of business studies in each student’s program.
