Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)
The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) degree is designed to prepare Early Childhood teachers to work with children aged from birth through to eight years. Graduates are qualified to teach in the Seventh-day Adventist Church school system both in Australia and overseas, as well as in the wider educational sector of government and non-government schools and in a diverse range of early childhood settings, including pre-schools, K–2 primary classrooms and long day-care centres.

Course Structure
The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) is an integrated course of 192 credit points normally spread over four years of full-time study. The course requirements include 105 days of professional experience between semesters in February and July of each year. The course is comprised of Christian Studies subjects, a discipline elective, curriculum studies, education studies, and professional development and experience.
Christian Studies
These subjects address the religious, ethical and social value emphases of Avondale College’s philosophy of education derived from its Seventh-day Adventist faith tradition.

Discipline elective
The discipline elective is designed to contribute to expertise in a teaching field, or to personal development. Students select one appropriate degree-level subject from which they have any necessary prerequisite/s.
Curriculum studies
These subjects are designed to provide students with an understanding of the practices and processes of teaching the early childhood curriculum. The subjects present the early childhood curriculum as an Integrated and Emergent curriculum, while focussing on the theory and practice of specific key learning areas.
Education subjects
The education subjects provide theoretical and practical perspectives contributing to the development of attributes of caring, competence, commitment, critical-reflective skills and Christian values.
Professional Development and Experience subjects
These subjects address the teaching strategies, skills and practices involved in teaching in an early childhood setting. They provide opportunities for the application of strategies, skills and practices during continuous professional experience field placements within a variety of early childhood settings, for periods of two to six weeks at a time.
