Course Structure


After completing the first two years of the BA/BTch, or BBus/BTch, or BSc/BTch or BEd (Secondary) course students may gain entry into the Honours program based on academic performance. Honours units replace some of the units in the regular program. The honours option allows selected students to complete a program in research methodology and conduct their own research under supervision. Furthermore, this program enhances the efforts of high potential students to influence professional practice through research, and facilitates access for students to proceed to research-based studies at Masters or Doctoral level.

English Language Proficiency Requirement for Teachers in NSW
International students require an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of at least 8.0 for speaking and listening prior to being employed as graduate teachers in New South Wales.

An average mark of 75% or greater in the units of the undergraduate program is needed for admission to the Honours program.

This course prepares Avondale graduate teachers to be employed by state, independent and private secondary schools across Australia, New Zealand and countries throughout the world

HECS-HELP


If you are a domestic student, you may be eligible for a Commonwealth supported place (HECS-HELP). There are two forms of HECS-HELP assistance:
  • HECS-HELP Loan: This is a loan from the Australian Government for all or part of your student contribution amount. No repayment is required until your income exceeds the threshold ($41,594 2008-2009) (CPI Indexed).

  • HECS-HELP Discount: If you pay up-front all, or at least $500, of your student contribution amount for units by the census date, you will receive a 20% discount on the amount you pay. Some students are required to pay their student contribution upfront and are ineligible for the upfront discount.

FEE-HELP


If you are a domestic full fee-paying student, you may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance. FEE-HELP is available for most Avondale higher education courses. FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth loan scheme that assists eligible students to defer payment of their tuition fees. FEE-HELP can cover all or part of a student’s tuition fees, up to a lifetime limit of $83,313 (2009). The $83,313 (2009) FEE-HELP limit is indexed each year. A loan fee of 20% applies to FEE-HELP loans for undergraduate courses of study. The FEE-HELP limit does not include the loan fee. No repayment is required until your income exceeds $41,595 (2008-2009 (CPI indexed).
