Bachelor of Ministry and Theology




The BMinTh degree is designed specifically to prepare students for ministry in the Seventh-day Adventist church. It is both theological and vocational in nature. The course provides students with a foundation for theology and ministry and the resources with which to work as an employed minister in the Seventh-day Adventist church. The degree also provides a foundation for further pastoral and theological reflection as well as for advanced study.

Avondale's Bachelor of Ministry and Theology and Associate Degree in Theological Studies are accredited by the NSW Department of Education and Training. Avondale's Ministry and Theology courses are recognised by the South Pacific Division (SPD) of Seventh-day Adventist's Board of Ministerial and Theological Education. Avondale is also a member of the Australia/New Zealand Association of Theological Schools.

Entry Requirements


General Admission Requirements apply to the Bachelor of Ministry and Theology course.
In addition, the following requirements apply to the Bachelor of Ministry and Theology course:
  1. Recommendation from, and telephone interview with, church pastorApplicants seeking ministry employment need a recommendation from a pastor of the applicant's local church who currently knows the applicant and who can affirm the applicant currently demonstrates in his/her home congregation suitability and potential for ministry. Such suitability must include involvement in leadership roles in congregational life, and time spent with the pastor or senior elder visiting both church members and non-members. The pastor's recommendation must also confirm that the applicant has adequate relational skills. A recommendation form must be completed by the pastor and sent to Avondale. Upon receipt of the recommendation from the pastor, a member of the Faculty of Arts and Theology conducts a telephone interview with the pastor.
  2. Optional telephone interview of applicant by facultyAn optional telephone interview of the applicant may be conducted by a member of the Faculty of Arts and Theology, in order to clarify any matter left unclear by the procedure outlined above. Usually two years must have elapsed since the applicant’s baptism, during which time the applicant must have been active in their local church.

FEE-HELP


If you are a domestic full fee-paying student, you may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance. FEE-HELP is available for most Avondale higher education courses. FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth loan scheme that assists eligible students to defer payment of their tuition fees. FEE-HELP can cover all or part of a student's tuition fees, up to a lifetime limit of $86,422 (2011). The $86,422 (2011) FEE-HELP limit is indexed each year. A loan fee of 20% applies to FEE-HELP loans for undergraduate courses of study. The FEE-HELP limit does not include the loan fee. No repayment is required until your income exceeds $44,912 (2010-2011) (CPI indexed).
