Avondale’s Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) degree is a dynamic and highly practical course with “hands-on” classroom experience from the second year. Graduate students can feel equipped to teach in a classroom setting and are inspired to be responsible and positive role models.
The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) is for undergraduate students wishing to become qualified to teach in any two of the following teaching areas:
Business Studies and Commerce
Computing Technology – Information Systems**
Design and Technology
Health and Physical Education
History (Modern and Ancient **)
Legal Studies **
Technology and Applied Studies
** Offered as a minor only
Accounting, Chaplaincy, Communication, Counselling, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Outdoor Education are not teaching fields in NSW, but you may choose to incorporate them into your teaching degree.

The BA/BTch (Sec) is self accredited by Avondale College of Higher Education and is offered within the term of the Australian Qualification Framework Level 7. The course is nationally registered with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).

General Admission Requirements apply to the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching course. In addition, the following majors have specific entry requirements:
Recent HSC Mathematics Extension 1 (or equivalent), or recommendation of the School of Science and Mathematics.
Admission to the Music major is by interview, audition and placement tests. Applicants should normally have studied music for approximately six years, but with approval of the Music Strand Convenor may be admitted with other appropriate music experience. The written theory placement test will consist of questions on key signatures, scale writing (major and minor), intervals, cadences, writing in four vocal parts, and melody writing based on the Australian Music Examinations Board (5th grade level).
English Language Proficiency Requirement for Teachers in NSW International students require an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of at least 8.0 for speaking and listening prior to being employed as graduate teachers in New South Wales.
