North American Study Year

Credit Transfer Guide

Thinking about studying at Avondale for a semester or two in your freshman or sophomore year?

This guide will help you through the process of selecting classes that are available at Avondale to transfer back into your study program in the US or Canada. The list of classes is for both March and August intakes for 2006. It will also be a helpful guide if you are thinking about coming in subsequent years.

How to make it happen

  1. If you know which North American college or university you plan to transfer credits to, speak to one of their advisors about which Avondale classes listed in this guide might transfer best.
  2. If you don’t know which North American college or university you want to transfer credits to plan to take classes that are typical of general education classes such as English, Introductory Psychology and Sociology, Christian Studies (if you are planning to attend an Adventist college or university) plus classes that are aligned with the major/s that you plan to take.
  3. The classes each have a code. To find out more about what the class involves and if there are prerequisites, click on the code to view the synopsis of the subject. Note that generally “subject” refers to the class and “course” refers to the study program in Australian universities and colleges.
  4. Course codes consist of two letters, three numbers and a . then a number.
    • the letters indicate theme (eg. CR = Christian Studies)
    • the numbers indicate what level/year they are offered for (100 numbers are generally first year classes, 200 numbers are generally second year classes),
    • . (dot) then a number indicate the semester the class is offered in (.1 classes are offered in first (March) semester and .2 classes are offered in second (August) semester.
  5. A full study load is four classes per semester. All classes are 6 credit points and are .125 EFTSL or one-eighth of a full study load for one year. Most classes include a minimum of 3 hours of face-to-face instruction per week for 16 weeks of a semester. Some classes include additional time in labs, tutorials and studio sessions.

Class List

The subjects listed below are arranged alphabetically according to subject themes. Within each group they are listed numerically by subject code. We also note if it is offered in the semester commencing in March or September for your convenience. Some classes are repeated in each semester.
