Information Technology Services
Information Technology Services manages the computer installations, software installation, records database development and management, internet services and campus network. Significant roles include the ongoing development of the campus network and continual upgrading of the computer installations.
IT Services manages a network infrastructure which includes a Compaq VMS Cluster, several Windows servers, and some Unix-based servers. All academic areas and student residences are networked to the central computing facilities. A permanent Internet connection is maintained using DDS through Hunterlink/Pacific Internet.
Three computer laboratories are available for general student use in the Business and Information Technology Building, and one in the White Building. These computer laboratories contain 51 IBM compatible computers. Student access to these laboratories averages 10-12 hours per day, 5.5 days per week. In addition, eighteen computers are available 24 hours per day in the residence halls.
Students have the use of eighteen computers in the Library (eleven with internet access), as well as eight catalogue-only computers with access to the UNILINC system.
There are also specialist computer laboratories in the Faculty of Lifestyle Education and Visual Communication (for Graphic Design, CAD and CNC), the Faculty of Arts (for radio production, video production, and music composition), and the Faculty of Science and Mathematics.
In aggregate Avondale students enjoy a computer per student ratio of about 1:5.
