Library

Avondale Sydney Library is the home library of Avondale’s School of Nursing, the Sydney Adventist Hospital staff, and the University of Sydney medical students at the Sydney Adventist Hospital Clinical School.

The Library is on the entrance level of the Clinical Education Centre located on the Sydney Adventist Hospital estate. Facilities include seating for 74 people, 8 PCs, 2 photocopiers, new book display, and easy chairs. There are 3 qualified Library staff.

Summary of Holdings

The Library maintains a specialist nursing, bioethics, medical and allied health collection of approximately 22,000 books and 2,000 DVDs. Print journal subscriptions are being replaced with online journals. The Tom Ludowici Bioethics Collection holds 7,700 items and is one of the largest collections of bioethics in Australia.

Academic hours: Monday – Thursday 8am – 8pm; Friday 8am – 3pm; Sunday 1-6pm
Vacation hours: Monday – Thursday 9am – 5pm; Friday 9am – 3pm

Databases

Avondale students have free access to CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature), Medline, The Cochrane Library, Joanna Briggs, ProQuest, Australian Indigenous Health, and Nursing Reference Center.

Reference/User Assistance

Library staff provide Library orientations, and offer personalised assistance in use of Moodle, and searches of the databases and the Library catalogue.
