HECS-HELP Information

If you are enrolled as a Commonwealth Supported Student, you may be eligible for HECS-Help assistance for your Student Contribution.

HECS-HELP Payment Options

All Commonwealth Supported Students need to complete a Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF) as part of the enrolment process. Students eligible for HECS-HELP will also need to supply a valid Tax File number (TFN) with their CAF details.

Students are now able to complete the CAF online in Student Connect. It is found under the Enrolment Tab and is known as ECAF. We urge all students to complete the CAF online.

Australian Citizens and holders of an Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa

You have the following options for each period of enrolment:
  • Option 1 - Up-Front payment. You can choose to pay your Student Contribution up-front and receive a 10% discount. To make a payment please go to Payment Methods. Payments cannot be accepted after the due date. If you are unable to make the payment before the due date, Option 3 may be available to you.
  • Option 2 - Partial Up-Front payment - Min $500. Partial up-front payments of $500 or more also attract a 10% discount. The balance remaining is deferred to the Australian Tax Office (ATO) if you supplied a valid TFN on your CAF.
  • Option 3 - Deferred Payment. If you do not make an up-front or partial up-front payment and are eligible for a HECS-HELP loan, the Deferred Payment will apply, You must have supplied a CAF and a valid TFN. The whole or any remaining balance will be deferred to the ATO.

Please remember to keep your Tuition Invoice for your records.

New Zealand Citizens and Australian Permanent Residents

You are required to pay 100% of your Student Contribution before the due date. Failure to pay the amount in full by the due date will result in the loss of your Commonwealth Supported Place and you will become a Full-Fee paying student. To make a payment please go to Payment Methods.

Late Payments

Avondale cannot accept any up-front payments for your Student Contribution after the Census Date for the semester.

The amount shown on your Tuition Invoice as HECS-HELP Loan will be deferred to the Australian Tax Office (ATO) as long as you have completed a CAF, have provided a valid TFN and are eligible for HECS-HELP. If you wish to make a voluntary repayment at any time in the future you can contact the ATO on 1300 650 225 or visit their website www.ato.gov.au.

Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN)

Under the guidelines of the Higher Education Support Act (HESA) 2003, Avondale must issue a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) to all Commonwealth Supported Student (HECS, FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP and OS-HELP) after the Census Date for each period of enrolment.

The CAN includes important information about your enrolment such as your Student Contribution amounts, how much Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) you have used and any HECS-HELP assistance you have received.

The CAN is made available through Student Connect (eCAN). After the relevant Census Date, Student Finance will send out an email advising you that the eCAN is available for viewing. You will need to select eCAN under the Finance heading on home page of Student Connect. We advise that you keep a printed copy of the eCAN for your records.

If you do not agree with the details listed on your eCAN, you have 14 days from the date of issue of the eCAN, in which to make a written appeal to Student Finance.
