Service and Mission

Service and Mission is a large part of Avondale life. We believe that as Christians, it is our duty to serve by helping others. Getting involved in service initiatives at Avondale is also a great way to travel the world and make new friends.

COSMOS

COSMOS offers students opportunities to help others by raising funds for humanitarian aid projects. Over the last few years COSMOS raised funds to sponsor a school in Sikkim, India. COSMOS has raised this money through a number of events: the official “COSMOS week”; selling delicious Indian food; the annual walk-a-thon; and auctions.
COSMOS members include students and staff of Avondale, as well as community members in the Cooranbong district.

One Mission

One Mission is a not-for-profit organisation operated in affiliation with Avondale, Adventist Volunteer Services (AVS), Adventist Disaster and Relief Angency (ADRA), and International Children’s Care (ICC), which aims to mobilise volunteers by providing carefully selected community development projects within Australia and
developing countries around the world. To date, One Mission has been involved in projects in Cambodia, Fiji, Botswana, India, Mozambique, Nepal, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, Tanzania and Thailand. Projects generally operate from three to six weeks at a time, which fits in ideally during the mid-year break.

Visit www.onemission.org.au for more information about how you can become a volunteer and help change the world.

STORMCo

The STORMCo (Service To Others Really Matters) mission is to send teams of trained young people to work for, learn from and encourage individual communities; sharing God’s love by building bridges to all people through an adventure in service to others.

StormCo is a youth initiative of the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church organised under
the banner of ADRA. Avondale sends up to four teams each year during the mid-year break, providing opportunities for students to reach out to communities in need. Visit www.nnswyouth.com for further information.

Pick a Street

Pick a Street is a student-led organisation that provides opportunity to serve in our local community. So often we can be caught up in our own world and forget that others around are facing challenges more difficult than our own.

Pick a street projects range from smaller scale backyard clean ups, painting and fixing broken doors to larger scale community events like Easter egg hunts and rehab centre chapel programs. We aim to build bridges within our community by being God’s service instruments with no agenda, His hands… His feet.
