Campuses

Avondale College has two campuses. Its main campus is on several hundred hectares and is located in a rural section of the City of Lake Macquarie between the lake and the picturesque Watagan Mountains. The second campus is in Sydney's north shore suburb of Wahroonga adjacent to the Sydney Adventist Hospital.

The Sydney campus is for nursing students who only spend the first semester on the Lake Macquarie campus.

The Lake Macquarie campus is only ten minutes drive from Australia's largest salt water lake and twenty or thirty minutes from the wide sandy surf beaches of the Central Coast. Newcastle is the closest provincial city. It is just forty-five minutes away by car or train. Sydney is just ninety minutes by train or freeway.

All of this means that students can enjoy study in a rural setting but enjoy easy access to the surf and the city with its cultural and sporting events and activities.

The Lake Macquarie campus itself is equipped with excellent facilities to balance the demands of study with sport and recreational and cultural activities.

Facilities such as a heated swimming pool, fitness centre, music centre and spacious library cater for the needs of the students residing on campus.

A new 4.5 million-dollar auditorium and sporting complex was completed in October 2002.

Avondale has its own campus Post Office, Commonwealth Bank agency, bookshop and canteen. The Student Centre has a TV and games room and is open until late most days.

Students are encouraged to provide their own computers. Although network connections are not yet installed to each room in the residences, all students are issued an email address and computers with internet and email access are available all day every day in computer rooms in each residence hall.

One of the four computer labs is also open until late each evening for personal use.

Telephone calls to residences are through a receptionist who is on duty for specified hours. Students can purchase prepaid cell phones for a reasonable price to receive calls from home at any time.

Residence Halls are same gender facilities and security is a priority. Some residences have single rooms and some are shared. All residences have community bathrooms. Details of what is included in rooms and what needs to be provided are sent to all applicants prior to registration.
