Why Avondale
Introduction
Avondale is unique in the Australian Higher Education system. It is a private college with distinctly Christian values and a respect for the faith and spiritual traditions of others. We are one of only two Christian higher education institutions in the country which offer our own fully accredited degrees.
We like to think that an Avondale education is an education with heart and soul. We are committed to providing education that prepares people to make a significant difference in the world. Principles of justice and equity, honesty and integrity, compassion and service are interwoven with opportunities for spiritual growth.
People around the world praise and worship in a variety of styles. All who worship God, do so in their own way. We encourage and endeavour to accommodate this. Worship services for Adventist students on campus take place on Saturday and, if required, transport can be provided to nearby Anglican, Uniting, Baptist, Catholic, and Charismatic churches on Sunday. A Buddhist temple is within ten minutes drive.
Elements of the program on the main campus reflect the Adventist roots and ethos of the institution and eighty percent of the students are from a Seventh-day Adventist Christian background, but experience has shown that our study programs and campus lifestyle are of significant value to students from the broader Christian community.
Where biblical teachings intersect with academic learning, an enquiring approach with lively discussion and debate, appropriate to tertiary level studies, encourages confirmation of a student's perspective of biblical truth and deepening of their spirituality.
Higher education challenges students to explore deeper levels of understanding and research into new fields of knowledge. Avondale does all of this in a way that respects a student's faith and beliefs.
Why Avondale?
While the majority of Australia's universities approach learning from a humanist point of view, Avondale maintains that life has a purpose and meaning consistent with a divine plan for our world. We also believe that people gain the highest satisfaction from life when meeting the personal needs of others. Avondale's purpose is to build on the God-given gifts of each student to enable them to live life and work in a career that does just that.
Our degree programs are fully accredited by State Government authorities.
Graduates from Avondale have been very successful in finding employment throughout the nation and internationally and many hold very prominent positions in business, government and church organisations. As an example, a significant proportion of Avondale education graduates is targeted by the NSW state Education Department. Our nursing program has been regarded as one of the best in the state because of its extensive clinical component.
Australian qualifications are generally recognized throughout the world.
We also think you would enjoy being at Avondale because our total enrolment is less than 1000 with excellent student-staff ratios thereby providing a supportive and very personal learning environment.
Avondale has been providing post-secondary education for more than 100 years and during this time has developed strengths across a surprisingly broad range of majors.
