Commonwealth Supported Places - Australia & New Zealand (HECS-HELP)

If you are a new teacher education or Bachelor of Nursing student from Australia or New Zealand, you are able to apply for a Commonwealth supported place formerly known as a HECS place. These will be allocated on the basis of academic merit.

Australian students are able to benefit from HECS-HELP assistance which enables you to defer repayment of your student contribution or to receive a discount if all or part of the student contribution is paid up-front. New Zealand students and permanent residents are not able to benefit from HECS-HELP assistance. However NZ students can still have a Commonwealth supported place.

If you have already begun studying in a course that attracts HECS, the Australian Government has put in place transitional arrangements that apply to you until Dec 2008. Full details of your entitlements and conditions if you commenced study prior to 2005 are available at www.goingtouni.gov.au
