US Financial Aid Information

US citizens and eligible non-citizens can apply to study at Avondale College under the US Financial Aid Loan scheme. Avondale College is certified by the US Department of Education to approve US Federal Financial Aid under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program for eligible students. Under this program, borrowers are able to obtain loans directly from the US Department of Education.

Please note that as of July 1 2010, Avondale College's Bachelor of Nursing program is no longer eligible to receive any US Financial Aid.

These loans include:
    Direct Loans - Subsidized
    • Awarded to students who demonstrate financial need as per the US Department of Education guidelines.
    • The US Government pays the interest while you are attending university at least half time, in the grace period and during deferment periods.

    Direct Loans - Unsubsidized
    • Available to all eligible students, regardless of income or need.
    • Interest is accrued from the date the loan is fully disbursed, though you can choose to pay it later if you are in school, grace or deferment status.
      • Choosing not to pay the accruing interest adds to the principal amount and increases the amount you have to repay
      • Paying interest as it accumulates means you will repay less in the long run.

Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students - PLUS
    • Parents of dependent students may borrow up to the total cost of attendance minus any other financial assistance.
    • The student and parent must still meet all eligibility criteria.
    • Requires a credit check, usually only looking for adverse credit.
    • Interest begins to accrue when funds are disbursed and repayment begins within 60 days after the loan has been fully disbursed.

Graduate PLUS Loans (applies to our Masters programs only)
    • This loan allows graduates to borrow funds to pay for educational expenses on their own signature.
    • Requires a credit check, usually only looking for adverse credit.
    • Before applying for this loan the borrower must apply for and the school must determine their eligibility for the maximum annual Direct Loan amount.
