HECS-HELP

Since 2005 a change has been made by the Australian Government in the funding arrangements for what were formerly called HECS places. Students are now offered Commonwealth supported places. Avondale has been allocated Commonwealth supported places in our teacher education and Bachelor of Nursing courses. Students are awarded these places on the basis of academic merit.

Teacher education and Nursing places are designated National Priority places and as such the Australian Government sets the maximum amount for student contributions payable for Commonwealth supported places in these course.

The student contribution for students enrolling in 2008 is different to the student contribution for students who have been in enrolled in a course with HECS place prior to 2005.

Teacher Education and Nursing Students in Commonwealth Supported (HECS) Places

NOTE: NZ Students must pay the entire student contribution up front.

If you are allocated a Commonwealth supported (HECS) place you will pay a student contribution figure for your tuition.

(If you apply to enrol in teacher education or nursing degrees but are not allocated a Commonwealth supported place you will be offered a regular fee-paying place in those courses.)

Since 2005 changes to legislation require that student contribution amounts are paid in full by New Zealand citizens at the beginning of each semester.

Both teacher education and nursing courses are national priority band courses and the student contribution figure is set by the Australian Government.

Some subjects in teacher education and nursing courses are charged in other bands according to criteria set by the Government. The student contribution amount indicated here is therefore a minimum. Subjects in business, science, health, humanities and law will attract higher student contributions amounts. Click here for information about 2008 student contribution amounts per subject. Student contributions for those who commenced studies prior to 2005 are available here.
