Scholarships at Avondale
A wide range of scholarships are offered by Avondale College and affiliated institutions, as well as the Commonwealth government. Scholarships are available to students studying at Avondale in both undergraduate or VTE courses. Applicants must meet the criteria of each scholarship for their application to be considered.
Avondale Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship
The Avondale Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship is awarded to students from Australia and New Zealand who excel academically. Applications close on 16 December. Confirmation of final year results should be forwarded to the academic office as soon as they are available. First round offers will be made in the second week of January. Offers to New Zealand students and second round offers will be made in the first week of February. Value: $5,000 per year over the duration of the course increased to $7,500 per year if a distinction average is achieved. Criteria and applications are available from the Avondale Scholarship office.

President's Scholarship
The President's Scholarship is one of Avondale's most prestigious awards. It is awarded to a student from selected secondary schools throughout Australia and New Zealand who demonstrate a rare combination of leadership, academic excellence (likely to achieve a university ranking in the top 20% or their state, territory, or country) and service to their school and family, church and community. Value: Up to $8,000 over the duration of the course. Criteria and applications are also available from the Avondale Scholarship Office. Applications are submitted through school principals.

Academic Excellence Scholarship
The Academic Excellence Scholarship is awarded to any student in Australia or New Zealand who achieves a university entrance ranking in the top 10% of the state, territory or country of residence. Applications will be accepted at any time until registration. Confirmation of final year results should be forwarded to the Academic Office as soon as they are available. Avondale will make offers to all students it can locate at the beginning of each academic year. Value: Up to $6,500 spread over the duration of the course. Business Services Scholarship
Avondale College is pleased to offer ten scholarships in 2008 worth $1500 each. Open to Australian or New Zealand students commencing the Certificate IV in Business or Diploma of Business Services courses.

Campus Life Scholarship
One year scholarships worth $3000 are available to new and returning students who excel in an at least one area that contributes to, enhances and impacts campus life in a positive way: e.g. sportsmanship and sporting achievements, music and fine arts, spiritual mentoring, drama, worship leadership, volunteer support roles etc. Available to students from Australia, New Zealand or the South Pacific/Oceania region. Applicants must demonstrate how their involvement has impacted on or added value to their school (new students) or Avondale's campus (returning students). Community Service Scholarship
One year scholarships worth $3000 are available to new and returning students who can demonstrate an active involvement in service and contribution to their community. Applicants will have given of their time and energy to meet real needs in their community, have demonstrated dependability and a selfless compassion for others. Available to students from Australia, New Zealand or the South Pacific/Oceania region. Information and applications are also available from the Avondale Scholarship Office.

Economic Hardship Scholarship
Sums of up to $2,000 are available to students from within the South Pacific Region with demonstrated financial need. The amount available is dependent upon the degree of need and the number of applicants. It is awarded as a one-off grant. International Merit Scholarship
Available to new students who do not live in Australia, New Zealand or the South Pacific/Oceania region and who do not have citizenship or permanent resident status in any of the territories within this region Worth up to $3000AUD, applicants must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 or equivalent and excel in at least one of the following areas: school leadership, music performance or fine arts, sportsmanship and sporting achievements, spiritual mentoring, worship leadership, volunteer support roles or community/mission outreach. International Summer Camp Staff and Literature Evangelist Scholarship
Available to new students who do not live in Australia, New Zealand or the South Pacific/Oceania region and who do not have citizenship or permanent resident status in any of the territories within this region. The scholarship is worth up to $1000AUD. Applicants must have worked at an Adventist summer camp outside Australia during the summer prior to enrolling at Avondale, or have worked as a Literature Evangelist outside Australia during the summer prior to enrolling at Avondale. Leadership Scholarship
One year scholarships worth $3000 are available to new and returning students who can demonstrate an active involvement in leadership activities in their school, church or community. Leadership activities will demonstrate qualities such as initiative, the ability to motivate and delegate, to guide and direct. Australian Union Conference Education Scholarship
The Australian Union Conference (AUC) of Seventh-day Adventists Board of Education provides scholarships for third and final year Bachelor degree students in Teacher Education or students in second year of the graduate-entry Bachelor of Teaching. Successful applicants are bonded to teach for the SDA Church for two years. Value: Up to $3,000 per year with an additional $3,000 paid at the completion of the first year of employment. New Zealand Pacific Union Conference (NZPUC) Scholarship and Grant
To support students preparing for the Teaching Ministry, the NZPUC has two forms of assistance available for students studying teacher education degrees at Avondale College. There is an HECS Assistance Grant worth AU$1000 available for first and second year Bachelor degree students, and an Education Scholarship worth AU$3000 per year available for third and final year Bachelor degree students in Teacher Education or students in second year of the graduate-entry Bachelor of Teaching. Avondale Foundation Ministerial Training Scholarship
Ministerial Training Scholarships are available to students in the final two years of the Bachelor of Theology/Bachelor of Ministry degree or for the final year of those in the Graduate Diploma of Theology and Graduate Diploma of Ministry program. Applicants must meet the criteria and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is worth up to $4,500 per year. Applications are also available from the Avondale Scholarship Office.

Avondale Foundation Noel Clapham Memorial Scholarship
The Avondale Foundation Noel Clapham Memorial scholarship is awarded to honour the contribution of Dr Noel Clapham to Avondale College. Dr Clapham, an historian and highly respected member of academic staff, chaired the Humanities Department for many years. He also made an outstanding contribution to music at Avondale College, and served as Chair of the Music Department and director of the Avondale Symphonic Choir from 1952-1956.

Avondale Foundation Stanley and Dorothy Paterson Music Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded on academic merit to a music major student who has completed at least one year of study at Avondale. It is valued at $4,000. Criteria and applications are available from the Avondale Scholarship Office.

Greater Sydney Conference Children's Ministries Scholarships
The Children's Ministries Scholarships are designed to motivate, encourage, and provide financial assistance to students studying Theology or Ministry who are interested in developing skills to effectively minister to children. Valued at $500 applicants must be enrolled in the subject CM101 Children's Ministries in the Local Church.
Commonwealth Scholarships
The Commonwealth Learning Scholarships Program was introduced by the Federal Government in 2004 to assist rural and regional, low socio-economic and Indigenous students, who are Australian citizens or holders of permanent humanitarian visas, with costs associated with higher education. From 2008 onwards, this scholarship program will be renamed Commonwealth Scholarships. There are 3 different scholarships available to students studying at Avondale:
- Education costs scholarships (CECS)
- Accommodation costs scholarships CAS)
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island scholarships (recipients of this scholarship are also eligible for the CECS and CAS)
All scholarships are merit-based, non-repayable and target students from low socio-economic backgrounds.
The Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) and the Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS) are distributed to eligible higher education providers. Avondale received 4 new CECS scholarships and 2 new CAS scholarships in 2007. The number available for 2008 will be published on our website when we are advised. E. G. McDowell Education Scholarship
One scholarship valued at $2,000 per year will be awarded to a third-year undergraduate Education student or a second-year Bachelor of Teaching student. Information and applications are also available from the Avondale Scholarship Office.

E. G. McDowell Theology Scholarship and Grant
Valued at up to $1500 per year, up to four first-year scholarships and up to four second, third, or fourth year scholarships are available to students from Australia or New Zealand who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Theology/Bachelor of Ministry undergraduate degree or the Graduate Diploma in Theology and Graduate Diploma in Ministry program. WA Townend Christian Journalism Award
Valued at $500, one award per year is available to an Avondale student in their third or fourth year of their degree. Application forms and criteria are available from the Avondale Scholarship Office.

Thirty scholarships are available annually for full time Home Economics students studying an approved course such as the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Home Economics/Design and Technology course at Avondale. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship is worth $1,500 per year for residential students and $1,000 for non-residential students for each year of study of a Certificate or Diploma and up to four years of a Bachelor degree or double degree at undergraduate level.
