The new student administration system - Callista - successfully went live at Avondale on Friday 10 October 2008. The dedicated team were very happy that it happened, after nearly two years of preparation and hard work. Prospective students have been able to apply online via the new applicant portal since then. For three months now, Callista has successfully supported Avondale's business processes!
Avondale's first graduation utilising Callista support, occurred soon after - in December. This was also the first graduation where the new Avondale logo appeared on the newly designed testamurs. The ceremony was successful even so and we are now looking towards online re-enrolment in February/March for the beginning of the 2009 academic year.
As part of the Callista implementation, two new web-based interfaces for Staff and Student use are now available to our users. Staff Connect and Student Connect give people access to relevant information in an easy-to-use intuitive browser interface.
Staff Connect provides staff access to:
- look up student academic progress information to assist with student advisement
- download up-to-date class lists throughout a teaching period
- upload results at the end of a teaching period
- view information on enrolment and progression
Student Connect provides students with access to:
- view their academic enrolment (which course, major, units, etc)
- keep their contact addresses up-to-date
- view their grades
- see their exam timetable
The possibilities and usage of both Staff and Student Connect leave room for expansion in the near future. The start of the 2009 academic year will see online enrolment for the majority of undergraduate students, as well as access to financial statements and enrolment confirmation reports via Student Connect.

What is Project Connect?
Connect is the project that has implemented a new student management system and will revolutionise the way you interact with College's administrative core. From applying to Avondale, being admitted into a course and progressing and completing it on time, student and course organisation will be much more efficient, flexible, monitored, customer service orientated, and above all, designed to turn Avondale into a more collaborative community.
Not only does the new system, known as Callista, provide better management of course structures and student progression, but you will also be able to enrol/re-enrol online, update your academic information at your own convenience and maintain your addresses and exam locations. You will complete government statistics and HECS Payment Option forms online while becoming more engaged in your own academic decisions. You will also be able to keep track of fees, view assessment results and results history.
