Terms and Conditions

General

Eligibility


  • The Manifest Creative Arts Festival (MCAF) competitions are open to attendees or members of Seventh-day Adventist churches or staff members and students at Seventh-day Adventist schools or colleges and universities in the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • Entries submitted to the MCAF competitions will be eligible for the Avondale University Young Achiever Prize if the entrant is aged 21 or under on the date of the first day of the festival (Friday, March 20, 2015).

Submission


  • Entries submitted to the MCAF competitions must be the entrant’s original work and, if applicable, must appropriately acknowledge any sources.
  • Entries submitted to the MCAF competitions must not infringe copyright or defamation laws.
  • Entries submitted to the MCAF competitions must not have been produced for commercial use
  • Entries submitted to the MCAF competitions must not have been broadcast or published for commercial use by any third party.
  • Entries submitted to the MCAF competitons should reflect Christian values such as: dignity; diversity; equality; hope; redemption; spirituality; and tolerance.
  • Entries submitted to the MCAF competitions will be judged according to the following criteria:
    • Originality
    • Creativity
    • Style
    • Reflection of Christian values, beliefs or themes
    • Impact


  • Entries submitted to the MCAF competitions must be accompanied by a Competition Entry Pass.
  • Entries to the MCAF competitions must be received by Friday, March 6, 2015, at 12 pm.
  • The MCAF will not accept corrections to entries submitted to the MCAF competitions.
  • Entry to the MCAF competitions constitutes agreement to all applicable terms and conditions.

Judging


  • The MCAF will judge and exhibit or showcase entries at the discretion of the judges of the MCAF competitions.
  • The MCAF and the judges of the MCAF competitions reserve the right to award additional prizes or to not award prizes if the entries are: not appropriate for a Christian festival; not of a reasonable quality; entered into a competition with too few submissions or entered into the incorrect competition; and for any other reason the judges deem reasonable.
  • The judges of the MCAF competitions will award prizes on merit. Their decision is final. No correspondence shall be entered into.

Announcement of winners


  • The MCAF will announce the winners of the MCAF competitions at the Gabe Reynaud Awards in Ladies Chapel on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 3.30 pm.
  • The MCAF will contact the finalists of the MCAF competitions by Monday, March 16, 2015.

Publicity


  • Winners of the MCAF competitions and of the Adventist Communicators Awards are expected to participate in the publicity for the MCAF.

Liability


  • Adventist Media Network and Avondale University, including its employees, agents and contractors, are not liable for any injury, loss or damage to any entrant including any injury, loss or damage to any entry, resulting from, directly or indirectly, their participation in the MCAF competitions or the Adventist Communicators Awards.

Avondale University Fine Arts Photography Competition

  • The Avondale University Fine Arts Photography Competition is open to fine art works in photography.
  • Entries submitted to the Avondale University Fine Arts Photography Competition must address the theme “Act.Love.Walk. What justice looks like through your eyes.”
  • Entries submitted to the Avondale University Fine Arts Photography Competition must be submitted digitally.
  • By submitting an entry to the Avondale University Fine Arts Photography Competition, the entrant agrees to allow the entry to be: exhibited at the MCAF; published as an image in publications of Adventist Media Network and Avondale University at the discretion of the entrant; and used to promote the MCAF.

Avondale Conservatorium Choral and Instrumental Music Composing Competition

  • The Avondale Conservatorium Choral and Instrumental Music Composing Competition is open to all choral and instrumental music genres.
  • Entries submitted to the Avondale Conservatorium Choral and Instrumental Music Composing Competition can be up to a maximum of five minutes in length.
  • Entries submitted to the Avondale Conservatorium Choral and Instrumental Music Composing Competition must be notated and produced using appropriate software (eg. Audacity, Finale, GarageBand, Sibelius, Garage Band or equivalent).
  • Entries submitted to the Avondale Conservatorium Choral and Instrumental Music Composing Competition can be submitted on CD or digitally as MP3 files.
  • Entries submitted to the Avondale Conservatorium Choral and Instrumental Music Composing Competition must include scores that are printed or saved as PDF files.
  • By submitting an entry to the Avondale Conservatorium Choral and Instrumental Music Composing Competition, the entrant allows the entry to be: performed at the MCAF; and used to promote the MCAF.
  • Distribution rights to the entry will remain with the entrant after the MCAF on the condition the song may be used for to promote the MCAF.
  • The MCAF will not return CDs and scores.

Hope Channel Filmmaking Competition

  • The Hope Channel Filmmaking Competition is open to all genres, including animation, documentary, drama and narrative.
  • Entries submitted to the Hope Channel Filmmaking Competition must be suitable for screening up to a PG (Parental Guidance) classification.
  • Entries submitted to the Hope Channel Filmmaking Competition Entries must be in English or have English subtitles.
  • Entries submitted to the Hope Channel Filmmaking Competition can be up to a maximum of 10 minutes in length—calculated from black to black and including all opening and closing credits.
  • Entries submitted to the Hope Channel Filmmaking Competition can be submitted through any of the following platforms:
    • Dropbox with a file size of less than 500MB.
    • Vimeo with film downloadable through website.
    • DVD (open region or multi-platform—must be compatible with all DVD players). Label DVD with film title, name of director and contact information.

  • Entries submitted to the Hope Channel Filmmaking Competition should use the best possible encoding quality—entries will be screened at 16x9.

  • By submitting an entry to the Hope Channel Filmmaking Competition, the entrant agrees to allow the entry to be: screened at the MCAF; broadcast for free on Hope Channel at the discretion of the entrant; and used to promote the MCAF.

  • Insurance of entries is the responsibility of the entrant.


Psalter Music Songwriting Competition

  • The Psalter Music Songwriting Competition is open to all genres except praise and worship.
  • Entries submitted to the Psalter Music Songwriting Competition can be up to a maximum of five minutes in length.
  • Entries submitted to the Psalter Music Songwriting Competition must be submitted digitally as MP3 files.
  • Entries submitted to the Psalter Music Songwriting Competition must include lyric sheets saved as TXT files.
  • By submitting an entry to the Psalter Music Songwriting Competition, the entrant agrees to allow the entry to be: performed at the MCAF; and used to promote the MCAF.
  • The entrant retains all recording and publishing rights on the condition the entry may be used to promote the MCAF, Psalter Music and/or Psalter Studios.

Signs Publishing Writing Competition

  • The Signs Publishing Writing Competition is open to all genres, including fiction, narrative, news and poetry.
  • Entries submitted to the Signs Publishing Writing Competition can be in any genre or style but must be of publishable quality.
  • Entries submitted to the Signs Publishing Writing Competition can be up to a maximum of 1000 words in length.
  • Entries submitted to the Signs Publishing Writing Competition must be submitted digitally as RTF or TXT files.
  • Entries submitted to the Signs Publishing Writing Competition must, where applicable, be double-spaced and in a 12-point easily readable font.
  • By submitting an entry to the Signs Publishing Writing Competition, the entrant agrees to allow the entry to be: exhibited at the MCAF; published in publications of Adventist Media Network and Avondale University at the discretion of the entrant; and used to promote the MCAF.
