People's Messiah: Community Call

17 October 2007

The People's Messiah returns to Avondale College Seventh-day Adventist Church for a third year and director Dr Robb Dennis is again inviting you to join the choir.

To participate, arrive at 5 pm on Saturday, November 17 for a chorus touch up. Bring your own Handel's Messiah score if you have one--a few scores will be available for those who do not have one. For those who would like more practice, a dress rehearsal will be held on Thursday, November 15 from 7-9 pm in the church (582 Freemans Dr, Cooranbong).

The People's Messiah will feature performances by several Newcastle professional musicians this year, including violinists Susan Collins and Therese  Goode, violist David Baney and cellist Rachel Pogson.

Dr Dennis looks forward to members of the community joining this celebration of the Christ's birth. "I get excited about inviting the community to celebrate a beautiful work of art that was written in only 24 days," he says. "Using texts only from the Bible, it encapsulates the meaning of Christmas. That celebration alone makes it a really joyous time. This music brings together people from many different walks of life because it strikes a chord with people."

The People"s Messiah will be performed at 7 pm on Saturday, November 17. Phone 4980 2208 or visit www.avondale.edu.au/events for more information.
