An Avondale lecturer will present a paper describing the Christian philosophy that supports the college's business course at three academic conferences this year.

Dr Keith Howson's "The development of a business degree philosophy: a journey" explains the college's philosophy of education and demonstrates how the Faculty of Business and Information Technology, of which Keith is dean, used the philosophy to design the course.

"One of the key questions coming out of our accreditation was, 'What's your philosophy?' We didn't have one then, but we do now," says Keith (pictured).

The paper asserts that the "development of a clearly articulated philosophy is vital to the delivery of well-defined educational outcomes."

"Integrity, stewardship and servant leadership--these are now the three fundamental pillars on which we build our courses," says Keith.

Keith will present the paper at: the eighth International Conference on Business, held in Hawaii, May 22-25; a conference for Seventh-day Adventist business teachers, held at Andrews University (Berrien Springs, Michigan, USA), June 26-28; and, subject to confirmation, at the Association for Tertiary Education Management's conference, held in Christchurch, New Zealand, September 28-October 1.
