Avondale lecturer stars on ABC radio

22 January 2009

Avondale College music department received an unexpected promotion when Opera Hunter performer and Avondale College music lecturer, Robb Dennis, went on ABC Radio to promote Opera Hunter's latest concert.

"I had expected to perform a musical selection and then participate in an interview. To my surprise the interview included questions about how I got started in opera and why I came to Australia. This allowed me to mention that I lecture at Avondale College and teach voice here as well. This led to questions about the voice students at Avondale and Newcastle and the future of singing in the Hunter Valley," said Robb.   Robb performed his musical selection with the help of Avondale College sessional lecturer, Natasha Knopper, who accompanied him in the musical selection.

Robb will be performing with Opera Hunter at Barrington Tops Retreat on Saturday night January 24. The concert will feature Verdi's , La  Traviata and famous opera arias, along with half a program of favourite hits from musicals, including 'Wicked', 'Westside Story ', and 'Gilbert and Sullivan 's Pirates of Penzance.   Selected as a lead tenor for Opera Hunter, he sings with Angela Black of Opera Adelaide and Michael Sauders of Opera Australia.

You can find the interview with Robb uploaded on the Avondale College Podomatic page.
