O Week is held at both Lake Macquarie and Sydney Campus to welcome all new students to Avondale College of Higher Education. We encourage you to participate and attend O Week activities; a series of informative, exciting and fun-filled events. It is a great way to meet new friends, be connected and get involved in the Avondale community.

O Week is open to all students whether studying by distance, on our Sydney campus or our Lake Macquarie campus.

Residential Student Arrival

You can check into the residence halls on:
Sunday 6 August 10.00am to 3.00pm
Monday 7 August 9.00am to 5.00pm

IMPORTANT: Residential accommodation is only available from Sunday 6 August except for Bachelor of Nursing Students who are commencing classes earlier. Please contact your Residential Directors to confirm move-in dates. For all international students arriving early, please contact the Admissions Team via email at to confirm your move-in dates. To obtain your keys to your room, a deposit must be paid through Student Finance.

Orientation Day for Bachelor of Nursing Students

All new Bachelor of Nursing students will be required to present the following compliance documentation on Orientation Day to the clinical office representative:
  1. National Police Check clearance
  2. Your record of vaccinations required for NSW Health nurses (bring evidence of progress if not already complete); including a completed TB Assessment form
  3. NSW Health Code of Conduct for Clinical Placement
  4. Senior First Aid or Apply First Aid Certificate
  5. Working With Children Check

All students enrolled in Bachelor of Nursing units on the Lake Macquarie campus must present these documentations on Orientation Day to verify their compliance level with NSW Health requirements.

International students will not be able to present some of this documentation on the day; however, you are expected to begin what you can of this process as a matter of priority.

Commencement Date for Bachelor of Nursing Students

If you are a student who is returning after leave, please contact the Academic Office on 02 4980 2126 for information regarding your commencement dates and times.

If you are a student commencing your 2nd year due to advanced standing, please contact the Admissions Team on 02 4980 2377 to check your commencement dates and times.

Travelling to Lake Macquarie Campus

Students travelling to the Lake Macquarie campus by train should disembark at Morisset Station on the Newcastle & Central Coast line. It is recommended you call Student Services (02 4980 2148) no later than 24 hours before you arrive to arrange transport by bus from the station to Avondale. Transport by taxi or public bus is also available. The Lake Macquarie campus is about 8 kms from Morisset station.

Avondale offers a complimentary shuttle services for all new first year International Students arriving at Sydney International Airport only, to their respective campuses. Please contact Admissions at for more information. Note: This service may be subject to change.

Parking on Orientation Day

Lake Macquarie Campus

New students are advised to park in the main car park by turning left directly after passing through the first boom gate and then an immediate left again. You will then see the main car park on your right.

Sydney Campus

Paid parking is available on campus by collecting a ticket when coming through the boom gates. Parking on the hospital grounds will be discussed during orientation. Please come prepared to pay $6 for parking for the first day.
