Avondale Vice Chancellor/President's Scholarship

The Vice Chancellor/President's Scholarship is our most prestigious. It is awarded to students from selected secondary schools in Australia and New Zealand who show transformational qualities throughout their schooling years and significantly contribute to their school, community, family and/or church.

Eligible recipients may have up to a maximum of one gap year after completing secondary school.

Avondale Academic Excellence Scholarship

Avondale is committed to nurturing academic achievement. Each year, an Academic Excellence Scholarship is awarded to all high achieving applicants from Australia and New Zealand. Students must be ranked in the top 10% of the state, territory or country (i.e. receive an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 90+).

Eligible applicants may have up to a maximum of one gap year after completing secondary school.

Value: $2,000 ($1,000 per semester) for the first year of study and $1,500 ($750 per semester) in each successive year in an undergraduate or VET course (maximum $6,500).

Avondale Arts Scholarship

Avondale offers up to two (2) Arts Scholarships to new students to Avondale, from Australia and New Zealand, who have a passion for arts and a desire to study a Bachelor of Arts at Avondale.

Value: $5,000 ($1,250 for each semester) for two years of study for students enrolled in the arts undergraduate degree.
Applications open: 30 September
Submit applications by: 31 January (first round), 28 February (final) or by 15 July for new students commencing in second semester.

Avondale Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching Scholarship

Avondale offers up to five (5) Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching Scholarships to new students from Australia and New Zealand, who have a passion for teaching and a desire to study a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching at Avondale.

Value: Up to $8,000 over the duration of the course. $4,000 ($2,000 per semester) for the first year of study and $2,000 ($1,000 per semester) in the second and third year for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching undergraduate degree.

Avondale Business Scholarship

Avondale offers up to two (2) Business Scholarships to new students to Avondale, from Australia and New Zealand, who have a passion for business and a desire to study a Bachelor of Business at Avondale.

Avondale offers up to two (2) Education Scholarships to new students to Avondale, from Australia and New Zealand, who have a passion for education and a desire to study an undergraduate education degree or Master of Teaching course at Avondale.

Value: $5,000 ($1,250 for each semester) for two years of study for students enrolled in an education undergraduate degree.

The A S & J W Jorgensen Scholarship

Through the generosity of Pastor Alfred W. Jorgensen, a former lecturer in the Avondale Seminary at Avondale, a trust fund has been established to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships to ministry and theology students at Avondale. Applicants must be able to demonstrate eligibility based on need. Up to two (2) scholarships may be awarded.

Value: $1,500 per year may be awarded. The number and amount of scholarships may vary from year to year depending on the funds released from the trust fund.

The McDowell Theology Scholarship

Value: up to $2,000 per year, up to four (4) first-year scholarships and up to four (4) second-, third- or fourth-year scholarships are available to new and returning students enrolling in the Bachelor of Ministry and Theology or Master of Ministry courses. One-off grants of up to $2,000 may also be awarded.

Avondale Ministerial Training and Scholarship Fund

This fund offers a scholarship to ministry and theology students in the final two years of their Bachelor of Ministry and Theology degree (BMinTh) or for the final year of those in the Master of Ministry (MMin). Download the application to see if you meet the criteria.

Value: This scholarship is worth up to 50% of the total tuition fee in a full year.

Value: $1,500 per year for residential students and $1,000 for non-residential students for each year of study in a VET course and up to four years in an undergraduate course.

Avondale Service/Leadership Scholarship (New Students)

Avondale offers up to seven (7) service/leadership scholarships to new students from Australia and three (3) to new students from New Zealand.

Value: $5,000 ($1,250 for each semester) for two years of study in any undergraduate, Outdoor Leadership VET courses, Master of Ministry, Master of Teaching (Primary), or Master of Teaching (Secondary).

Avondale offers an unlimited number of discounts to students who have worked at a Christian summer camp program. The Avondale Summer Camp discount is available to Christian camp program workers.

Value: Up to $150 per week of work in the form of a discount for up to three weeks.

ASA Master of Teaching Scholarship

Adventist Schools Australia (ASA) is partnering with Avondale University (Avondale) to offer people who want to retrain as teachers an ASA Master of Teaching Scholarship.

The scholarship is valued at $1,500 per semester to a maximum of $6,000 (covering four semesters for the full MTch course).

The program is available to students enrolled at Avondale in one of the below courses:
  • Master of Teaching (Primary)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary)

This is an excellent opportunity for people who want:
  • A guaranteed job offer

  • To change careers
  • To study via distance education/online
  • To work in the Seventh-day Adventist school system
  • To have security of a teaching job once graduated

Some of the main criteria is listed below, however, this list is not extensive.

Applicants for the ASA Master of Teaching Scholarship must:
  1. Be a permanent Australian resident;
  2. Demonstrate authentic practical Christian faith and involvement at local church level and provide two referees, one of which must be their church pastor;
  3. Maintain ongoing enrolment in the course approved for this program;
  4. Be willing to be interviewed as part of the selection process;
  5. Demonstrate competence in meeting professional experience requirements;
  6. Meet Working With Children Checks and other legal requirements;
  7. Demonstrate a willingness to accept employment in a range of locations.

To maintain a position in the program, applicants must:
  1. Achieve at least a Credit grade for all professional experience placements;
  2. Have a minimum GPA of 5;
  3. Not have any substantiated disciplinary incidents during student years;
  4. Not defer the agreed study program without approval from the ASA Education Scholarship Committee, as student deferrals can impact employment availability. Requests for deferral will only be considered for unforeseen emergencies;
  5. Satisfactorily graduate from the Master of Teaching course.

Through the duration of the Master of Teaching course, ASA will request details about the student’s performance to validate their ongoing progress in the ASA Master of Teaching Scholarship.

AUC Women in Pastoral Ministry Scholarship

The Australian Union Conference (AUC) has established a Women in Pastoral Ministry (WiPM) Scholarship Fund to provide financial assistance to female ministry and theology students enrolled at Avondale University. The scholarship has been established to affirm and encourage women to undertake theological training allowing them to be equipped for pastoral ministry in the local church.

Value: The value of each scholarship is worth up to $14,000 for BMinTh and $7,000 for the GradDipMinTh over the duration of the degree.

The scholarship worth $8700 is available to any new or returning domestic or international student who enrols in our Bachelor of Business with a major in accounting or in our Master of Business Administration.

Brisbane Water (NSW) Legacy Scholarship

If you’re in need of financial assistance, based on the Central Coast and a direct descendant of a veteran or service member, a Brisbane Water (NSW) Legacy Scholarship could be your chance to study the course you’ve always dreamed of.
The scholarship supported by AVCAT provides the successful applicant with a benefit of $6,000 for their first year of full time study and increases each year for a maximum of four years.

Applications are open all year. The best time to apply is between February and September if you’re planning to start your studies in the following year.

Cedric Greive Memorial Scholarship

Avondale University offers the equity-based Cedric Greive Memorial Scholarship to encourage first-in-family or First Nation students or students with disability to consider a career in secondary science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) teaching.

Value:The scholarship is worth $5000. The successful applicant receives $2500 in their first semester of study and $2500 in their second.
Application deadline: 5 February for semester one and 15 July for semester two.

David Down Memorial Scholarship

Avondale Seminary offers one (1) David Down Memorial Scholarship each year to encourage and recognise students enrolled in the first year of a ministry or theology degree course at Avondale. If you have a gift and a passion for communicating the gospel but cannot access the Australian government loan scheme FEE-HELP, please apply.

Value: up to $3,000 over two years.

Driscoll Pacific Islands Student Scholarship

Avondale University offers this scholarship each year to encourage a student from the Pacific islands to enrol in an undergraduate, postgraduate or higher degree by research course.

Value: $7000 over the first two semesters.

Duncan–Kranz Choral Scholarship

The Conservatorium of Music at Avondale University offers the Duncan–Kranz Choral Scholarship to a maximum of eight (8) Avondale students who have a passion for music and a desire to sing with vocal ensembles Avondale Singers and The Promise. This scholarship is open to all students. The scholarship is awarded on merit to encourage and recognise worthy students with demonstrated aptitude in and commitment to music.

The Edith Cavell Trust Scholarship

The Edith Cavell Trust Scholarships are available to financially assist nurses, midwives, assistants in nursing, and assistants in midwifery. Applicants must be a financial member or associate member of the NSW Nurses and Midwives Association. Scholarships are awarded on a needs or merit basis.

Submit applications by: 5.00pm 31 July each year for the following academic year.

The Greater Sydney Conference (GSC) Teacher Training Scholarship

The Greater Sydney Conference (GSC) Teacher Training Scholarship is designed to assist Adventist school companies to secure quality teachers to meet the company’s needs. Scholarships are available for the second and subsequent years of approved study for a teaching degree. Approved scholarships are worth up to $3,000 per year during the approved scholarship period. The GSC Teacher Training Scholarship is funded and managed by the local Adventist school company in harmony with the guidelines approved by the Adventist Schools Australia National Education Council.

King & Amy O'Malley Trust Scholarships

King & Amy O'Malley Trust awards annual undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships for students applying for or enrolled in tertiary Home Economics or equivalent programs, such as Consumer Science, Family and Consumer Studies, Food and Nutrition, and Teacher Education.

Scholarships are worth $6,500 for full-time undergraduate students and $9,500 for full-time postgraduate students (also available as part-time scholarships).

King Family Scholarship

The King Family Scholarship encourages students in a degree course who want to sing with vocal ensembles Avondale Singers and The Promise but who are not vocal performance majors to improve their skills through private tuition.

Morisset High School Scholarship

The Morisset High School Scholarship encourages Year 12 students at Morisset High School to complete their tertiary education at Avondale University. The scholarship is sponsored by the Morisset ADRA Op Shop, which donates its proceeds for the benefit of the local community.

Value: $2,000 ($1,000 per semester) for the first year of the course.

NZPUC Education Scholarship and Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) Assistance Grant

The New Zealand Pacific Union Conference (NZPUC) wishes to encourage students to prepare for a teaching ministry. A tangible way of doing this is to provide financial assistance to students studying teacher education at Avondale. The purpose of these scholarships is to enhance the supply of Seventh-day Adventist teachers in New Zealand. The NZPUC has two forms of assistance available for students studying for a teaching qualification at Avondale.

There is a Commonwealth Supported Place Assistance Grant of AU$1,000 and an Education Scholarship of AU$3,000.

The New Zealand Pacific Union Conference would like to assist New Zealand residents by making an Avondale Education more viable and to support the training of prospective denominational workers for the church in New Zealand.

Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarship

The Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships (RRES) program is to help Australians in regional and remote areas to access higher education. It supports people studying from Certificate IV through to PhD level.

Eligible students may receive up to $18,000, based on course length. Shorter, part-time qualifications are paid on a pro-rata basis. An extra $500 is also available to support an internship.

Scholarships support flexible study arrangements, and are available to eligible students commencing a new course of study in 2022.

Vitality Works Nursing Scholarship

Sanitarium’s Vitality Works offers a scholarship each year to two Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or Māori students who are interested in nursing. The scholarship encourages the students to complete the Bachelor of Nursing course, which will prepare them to provide safe and competent care to patients

Value: The Vitality Works Nursing Scholarship is worth $10,000. The successful applicants receive $4000 in their first year of study and $3000 in each of the subsequent two years.

Winifred Kiek Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to Christian women living in multicultural Australia, Pacific Island nations, and member countries of the Asian Church Women’s Conference; women who already have basic training in a chosen field of work.

It provides the opportunity for further theological or lay leadership training to better equip the scholar to provide leadership in her own country, church and community. The scholarship may be used to cover fares, tuition fees and accommodation, and is awarded annually.

Young Scientist Scholarship

Avondale University offers the Young Scientist Scholarship to help young adults consider a career as a science teacher or scientist.

Value: The scholarship is worth $2000. The successful applicant receives $1000 per semester in their first year of study. Avondale will apply the money to the recipient’s tuition account. The money comes from the Young Scientist Scholarship Reserve, which two friends of Avondale fund. The friends value science education and have a history of supporting students through scholarships.
Application deadline: 5 February for semester one and 15 July for semester two.
